The Group was established as a human rights organization on 1996 and very soon it became popular and very active in the field and reality of human rights in Albania.
The main work of the Group is focused on human rights field gave its results in Albanian and international public opinion.
The Group has connection with several NGO-s in the country, region and others in international arena.
AHRG is branch of FIDH with its center in Paris and member of Atlantic Human Rights Consortium (USA-Canada). Also, the Group is member of Balkan Human Rights Network (leaded by Denmark), FreeEX, with its center in Bucarest, Romania and is part of some regional projects. Members of AHRG took part in international missions of human rights.
It is one of the main counseling partners of international organizations in Albania regarding reports, results, opinions on the events and different problems of human rights in Albania (OSCE, COE, UNDP, UNHCR).
The reports and conclusions of the Group were considered with priority in drafting of international reports about Albania and the region by the heading states of European Union and departments of American state (See at reports of departments of state in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002) as well as by countries and other organizations.
Also, the Group cooperated continuously with international organizations which are focused on protection of human rights, such a Amnesty International, Article XIX, international Crisis Group, etc(See at respective reports of Amnesty International of 200, 2001, International Crisis Group-1999, etc).
AHRG was one of the most active organizations during difficult political and social periods in Albania, such as Kosova crises, collapse of pyramidal schemes, parliamentary and local elections of different periods such as on 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, etc.
In line with what is mentioned above, the staff of AHRG was trained in Albania and outside the country. These training assisted the members of AHRG not only in direction of their professionalism but even to gain the abilities of leadership, work in groups, management of projects, etc.
The structure of the Group has changed in the function to new activities as well as in function to interests, regional cooperation, intensity of the work, etc.
Another activity of the Group is the presenting of violations of human rights to the Human Rights Court in Strasbourg.
The AHRG is the first organization in the country to which media, international foreign organizations and national ones are referred. It also has a trustful opinion to the citizens.
One main activity is also the drafting and implementing initiative for the anti-discrimination law that was approved in 2010. The group was the initiator of this draft and helped in it implementation due to the training initiative undertaken by the Legal Staff of the Group. The training was mostly focused on Judges that will be directly involved in deliberating on these cases.
